A selection of the many reviews we have received from people who have stayed at the Beeches.
Thank you, Sandy & Kim, for the most lovely weekend break. You are super hosts; beautiful rooms, long hot baths in the rolltop, fresh honey for breakfast (which we helped collect from the hive!), an incredible walled garden and even an electric sofa to drive! Wish we could have stayed longer, but we’ll see you again very soon, so put the kettle on!

After 3 half day courses on various types of propagation, I now have several healthy young house plants created by leaf cuttings, 2 plants made by layering, and several new softwood cuttings that will hopefully help stock my new garden. Furthermore, after Laurie’s clear instructions as we worked, together with the notes that she provided, I have every confidence that I will be able to carry on “creating” new plants. The friendly nature, the vast knowledge shared by both Laurie and Sandy, together with the magic of the setting, made these 3 occasions enjoyable and fulfilling. (The delicious cakes were a bonus!). I have no hesitation in recommending these courses.

Thank you Sandy for a wonderful couple of days at The Beeches. Definitely a 5 star B&B in the most beautiful setting, with delightful hosts. Whilst my husband went walkabout I attended the course on Container Growing, led by Laurie McMillan. Laurie is an excellent educator, good fun but so informative and I will never look at a container in the same way again! And of course Sandy’s wonderful refreshments completed an excellent course. I wish I lived nearer so that I could attend more courses. Thank you
Thank you for taking such great care of us. Everything was just perfect. You and your husband couldn’t have made us (my mum and I ) feel more welcome and nothing was too much trouble. We will be recommending your beautiful home and garden to family and friends.
What a wonderful home and garden ! The location is perfect for a weekend away with super pubs and lovely scenery. We were made so welcome and would return any time to see the garden change throughout the seasons.

I really enjoyed the fruit tree pruning course in February. Very informative and well explained, the practical demonstrations and then practising what we had learnt enabled us to understand how to prune fruit trees properly. The lunch was fabulous, and all set in such beautiful grounds. I came away from the day feeling like I had been on holiday! Many thanks.

The one-day Vegetable Growing Course with Laurie MacMillan was 5 Star. Packed with practical information, I now feel ready to grow vegetables from seed, prepare the soil and start my allotment. Lunch was delicious, we even had organic wine, and the tour of Sandy’s walled garden a real treat. I have booked my next course already!

I came with friends and my partner Heather to attend at my son’s wedding in a nearby village. Nothing prepared me for The Beeches – it is, simply, the most magical place I have ever stayed in and my whole weekend centred around being nurtured at breakfast time, absurdly well provided with comfort in our bedroom, and toured by Kim around the gardens – which are magical in themselves – . helped with taxis, dinners booked without any hassle AT ALL and I came home wondering if, after all, My friends and I had actually found a real A Midsummer Night’s Dream of a place.. So, lots of “wonderful’s” from me, Heather, Lloyd, Micki, Richard and Claire

Four miles north of Lewes in bucolic Barcombe, this rambling country house b&b set in six acres of much-loved gardens is popular with the summer Glyndebourne set. But its serene South Downs location, romantic rooms and topnotch breakfast makes for a relaxing country escape all year round.
Wonderful B & B in the most beautiful setting – the gardens are an absolute delight and like walking into a Merchant Ivory production ….

I just wanted to say how enjoyable and useful the course was last Friday. The tuition was great, with lots of hands-on experience of a variety of fruit forms under excellent supervision! The fact that it took place in such a lovely venue was a real treat, as were the refreshments, including the delicious home cooked lunch and wine. Couldn’t have asked for a more informative and enjoyable way to learn – the weather was a bonus.
We are still talking about our wonderful stay at The Beeches in beautiful Sussex, and so is our little son who treasures his very special marble. How generous of you to open up your beautiful house and garden, which went straight into the top league of special places we have visited around Britain. A house and garden that oozes history and a wonderful mix of classiness and informality. Your passion and obvious talent for interior, art, colours, and gardening is tremendously inspirational. So is your very genuine way of treating your guests in such a warm and accommodating way. Elegant and spotless rooms, delicious breakfast with the best apple juice we have ever tasted. This is a rare combination and skill to have – and you are setting the bar high for anyone else. We would love to come back and feel fortunate that we have discovered this most perfect place to stay.
Thank you Sandy, I absolutely loved the course and am looking forwards to experimenting with weaving further. It was lovely to see you and your wonderful garden again too.
